USA Triathlon Level 1 Coach
Andrea is a USA Triathlon Level 1 Certified Coach who works with age group and junior triathletes of all abilities. She has been racing triathlons from sprint to Half Ironman distance since 2003. Her results include several top-10 age group finishes and selection to the 2012 USAT Age Group Olympic Distance National Championship.
Andrea's coaching background consists of teaching group classes in all three triathlon disciplines. In addition to these sessions, she enjoys working one-on-one with athletes to develop their sport specific skills. Her knowledge of nutrition and recovery methods play a vital role in molding the complete triathlete. To help competitors put all of this together, she can customize training plans for all triathlon distances.
Away from triathlon, Andrea is the mother of two daughters, manages youth girls softball, has two fun loving golden retrievers and is married to an age group triathlete.

Coach Ken Johnson did his first triathlons in the late 1980s, then returned to the sport in 2000. He became a USA Triathlon Level I certified coach in 2003 and began coaching triathletes at the RecPlex in 2004. He is also a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Wellcoaches Certified Wellness Coach, Wellcoaches Certified Fitness Coach, and American Swimming Coaches Association Level 1 Coach. He has a M.S. Degree in Exercise Science, with specialization in Health and Wellness Promotion, and a M.B.A. in marketing.
Coach Ken has taken an active role in the development of multisport in the Midwest. In 1999 he was one of four athletes who reformed the Chicago Triathlon and Multisport Club, which was renamed the Chicago Tri Club in 2002. He was the Chicago Tri Club’s newsletter editor for over seven years, and was on the CTC’s Board of Directors from 2002 to 2008. Coach Ken was one of the founders of the RunBig Chicago Multisport Club, a Clydesdale organization, and ran RunBig’s multisport race circuits in 2003 & 2004.
Coach Ken has worked closely with USA Triathlon for several years. He was the Illinois Representative to the USA Triathlon Mideast Region Board of Directors, 2005-2006, and was the local organizer and assisted with the USA Triathlon Level I Coaching Clinic, held at the RecPlex in December 2005. Coach Ken also developed the official Novice USAT Olympic Age Group Championship 4-week plan, available free for download on TrainingPeaks.com.
At the RecPlex, Coach Ken provides individual and group triathlon training (focusing particularly on the Pleasant Prairie & Danskin races), run training, and open water swim workouts. He presents the two annual free Triathlon Clinics, in February and April, which are designed for those thinking about doing their first triathlon. Coach Ken also manages the RecPlex’s Indoor Triathlon series, as well as the RecPlex Run & Tri Club.
