Skating School FAQ’s

If my son or daughter wants to learn how to skate, where do they begin?

Individuals with no skating ability should all start in our Skating School regardless of whether or not they want to figure skate or play hockey.  Skaters interested in hockey can move from the skating school to our hockey school upon successful completion of one term (or at the discretion of our skating coordinator or hockey coordinator).

Can my son or daughter make up a missed class?

Yes, skaters may make up a basic skills class on another date if they complete the make-up request form and receive approval from the Learn to Skate Coordinator, Jane Boundy. Make-up request forms are available at the Guest Services Desk.

How will I know which class to sign up for next session?

Your skater’s instructor will provide you with a recommendation that is written on his/her evaluation form near the end of the skating term.

Hockey FAQ’s

Do you have a rental equipment program?

Yes, we have a rental program available to kids 10 and under.  A refundable deposit of $75 per child is put down toward the gear.  There is also a monthly fee of $12 to rent the equipment that is automatically billed on the 2nd day of each month via a checking account, credit card, or debit card. The $75 deposit and 1st month’s dues are collected upon renting the equipment.  Billing for the equipment will stop and your $75 deposit will be refunded once you turn your gear back into the ice arena desk and fill out the Rental Return form.

When is my hockey player ready for team-based play?

Beginners should complete 1-2 sessions of jump start and 2 sessions of the hockey school before they are ready to play on a team.  Some skaters may need more or less time in our development programs.  Ask the hockey coordinator for additional information: Tim Kinsman (tkinsman@plprairiewi.com).
